Lawson Dixon
LCMHCA

Lawson Dixon is Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. She received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from East Carolina University and her master’s degree from Liberty University.

Lawson understands that coming to counseling for some can be a huge step, so her goal is to immediately create a calm, safe space for each of her clients to feel comfortable with sharing. She is a firm believer that building a therapeutic relationship with each client is a vital part of therapy. Her goal is to enable her clients to learn how to overcome the obstacles they may be facing while highlighting their personal strengths and growing in the areas they may see as weaknesses. She also strives to address the negative thought patterns her clients may be experiencing and how they may be affecting their behaviors. Lawson has experience working with preteens, teens, and young adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, and grief and loss.

Most of Lawson’s counseling techniques stem from cognitive behavior therapy, though she understands that each person’s need is different and will incorporate techniques from person-centered therapy and strength-based therapy when needed. Lawson often encourages her clients to do “homework” when she feels it is necessary outside of counseling to enable them to strengthen the skills discussed in session.

Lawson believes God plays a huge role in each individual’s story and therapeutic journey so she operates from the biblical worldview and will encourage each of her client’s to discover their devine, God-given purpose.

When Lawson is not counseling, she is spending time with her newest family addition: her baby girl, her husband and their mini goldendoodle. She also loves the beach so you will find her by the sand often in the summer.
